Criminal law in Cyprus is a peculiar category of Law as the purpose of the Criminal Court is to punish the accused, resulting in his subsequent compliance and the prevention of similar or more serious offenses by him/her in the future.
The tactic observed in the Cypriot Criminal Courts, apart from the application of Jurisprudence, is that if one or more offenses are observed to be on the rise then the Court’s attitude is clearly stricter on the certain offenses each time.
The procedure of the Criminal Courts is clearly completely different from that of the Civil Courts as in addition to the procedure itself a penalty from a Criminal Court can have a huge impact on the personal and professional life of the defendant, if the final decision of the Criminal Court is GUILTY AS CHARGED.
